Scumbag record companies

This really stinks. I would be more persuaded by arguments for extended copyright, Digital Rights Management, and ridiculous penalties if it weren't for episodes like this. Show of hands on who thinks copyright should be reduced to 50 years, whether it's a work for hire or not.

The recording industry has to be one of the most crooked things in the world. It is shameful what they do to these people.

I absolutely agree about the copyright being reduced, but I don't think it's going to happen. You know why? Disney. You think they would let Micky slip into public domain? No way, Hosea.

I read a lot of interesting stuff in the book "Bootleg" about copywrite law. Originally it was a very short period of time (I want to say 25 years, but i'm not sure if that is right or not). The thought was that it would keep artists actually making art. You wouldn't be able to do one good thing (one hit record, for example) then stop. Obviously this is flawed because most people don't have more than one hit record in them for one reason or another. It is interesting though.
