Bigger, Faster

A new flash memory card has been released. It holds 8 Gigs, and costs a thousand dollars. I wonder when this stuff will get fast enough and cheap enough that we can replace hard disks with them.

I don't know if it is true or not, but I have heard that flash memory isn't as reliable as traditional hard drives when it comes to long term storage.

I'm sure they can do things to make improvements, but knowing that makes me feel a little anxious about moving everything to flash based storage. On the other hand, who knows, maybe Seagate started that rumor.
